Day 3: San Antonio
Hey everyone!! The Bashfuls are back at it again for our
last post... But fret not, today we have so much to tell
you guys!!! Keep reading to learn about our day 3!
This morning we woke up at a whopping 4:45am to a concert of pots and pans (thanks counselors!). We quickly got our belongings together, brushed our teeth, and walked to the
vehicles like zombies (barely awake). Bus packers did a great job loading all of our belongings onto the bus and trailer. Site managers worked hard to check behind us and make sure we left the campsite cleaner than it was when we arrived. Most of us instantly fell back to sleep
as soon as we got into our seats. We are thankful for the participants who volunteer to co-pilot and talk our counselor's ears off as they drive to keep them focused while the rest of us catch more Zzz's.
After we woke up (the second time) we were
greeted with a lovely breakfast meal of blueberry bagels, cream cheese and bananas. On
the journey to San Antonio, we played games such as ‘Would You Rather?', made our new friends
bracelets, showed off our sweet magic tricks, and played more classic card
games. Some of our favorites were…
Would you rather: have toes for a tongue or tongues for
toes?
Would you rather: always have cheeto dust on your fingers or
always have popcorn stuck in your teeth? Hahaha!
We arrived in San Antonio around 3:00 where we learned about the state of Texas and
it's rather big history (because everything’s bigger in Texas). We then traveled
back in time as we toured the Alamo. Inside the fortress, we found our inner
David Crockett, and discovered that even squirrels are bigger in Texas. The
scenery of the Alamo concluded with a group photo and research presentations. Cat
Chapman gave us many facts about San Antonio. Ashley Blum presented more
details of the Alamo. Paige Hudson told us all about our next stop of the day, the
Riverwalk. Thanks for all of the helpful information, guys! Without having Google at our finger tips, it feels a little strange not being able to search the history of this amazing places when we want to know more. We appreciate all the helpful information we receive from these presentations.
After we heard all of the research presentations, our counselors informed us that the PRECIOUS, delicate porcelain stones along the riverwalk were not meant to be walked on by shoes, so we were instructed to take our socks and shoes off in order for us to walk along the river. Hmmm... we realized later just how gullible we are! We meandered to the Riverwalk barefoot and dipped our feet in the river water. We were mesmerized by the oasis of
the river flowing through the center of the second largest city in Texas. Don’t
worry, we took tons of great photos for you guys to see! :)
After our barefoot experience, and yet another group picture, we were let loose to explore the beautiful city (many of us set off in search of the best food and souvenirs we could find within walking distance). Some of us were grateful to cool off
with refreshing ice cream in nearby shops. Others enjoyed food from a local Mexican cuisine that sat looking over the Riverwalk. All of us searched
for the most rad Texas t-shirts, postcards, and stickers we could find. Our counselors say we're doing a great job writing letters home (we have had no choice but to revert back to the olden days since we don't have phones we can text on! It isn't nearly as bad as we initially thought it would be....).
Around 5:45, we finished our San Antonio exploration and we all met
back at the bus. On the road heading toward Schreiner University, the Happy group served their last meal of turkey
sandwiches on the bus. Tomorrow we all will rotate to a new group responsibility, so after our traveling dinner tonight the Happy group was officially finished serving as the cooks! Great job happy's!
We made it safe and sound to Schreiner University - this place is a great! We saw many deer around the campus, and there were a few even a couple hundred feet from the gymnasium that we are staying in. Since we
are sleeping in the gym tonight, we were given time to play basketball and volleyball while we took turns taking showers. We capped the night with another sing-a-long and smiles!! We're getting the hang of this sing-a-long thing!
Tomorrow we get to SLEEP IN until to 5:15am (whoohoo!) to travel farther
west and into Carlsbad Caverns!
We’re sad to say bye as the very first bloggers of TWB 2018
trip 3, but don’t worry, the Dopey group will rock the blog tomorrow! Love and miss you everybody!
Peace and blessings,
The Bashful Group
